Speaking in her OK! magazine column, Emily said: “Once we move house I’m going to make a real effort to make some new mum friends, as that’s what I’m lacking in our current area.

“I’m lucky that Pete is supportive and mum is just on the other end of the phone, but it can be isolating, especially when Pete’s away working a lot.

“A few weeks ago HRH the Duchess of Cambridge spoke about how motherhood can be lonely sometimes, and I completely agree.”

Emily admitted she could understand how the loneliness could “contribute to postnatal depression”, and admitted it was a relief to know other mothers felt the same.

The Duchess, 35, said: “It is lonely at times. You do feel quite isolated. But, actually, so many other mothers are going through exactly what you’re going through.”

Kate was talking to Katie Massie-Taylor and Sarah Hesz, founders of new mums app Mush.

She told them: “It’s being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out.”
