Samsung EVO 960 250gb NVMe M.2 SSD causing ubuntu 16.04 to freeze completly in simple tasks

I’ve installed Ubuntu 16.04 in a new SSD (an EVO 960), alongside a 1TB HDD mounted to the Downloads folder and serving 10gb of swap.

I got 8gb of RAM and before the SSD upgrade my computer worked fine, now it completely freezes even when I try to boot a virtual machine.

I tried to search for firmware or driver for the Samsung SSD and all I could find we’re broken links.

Does anyone know how I should proceed to fix this? It makes no sense.
