Will Young returns to BBC after shock Strictly exit and lands judging role opposite US superstar Kelis on Pitch Battle

WILL Young will join the judging panel of a primetime BBC show just months after he sensationally quit Strictly Come Dancing.

He’ll star alongside US superstar Kelis and UK choir master Gareth Malone on Pitch Battle, the Beeb’s latest Saturday night entertainment show.

Pitch Battle will see head judges Kelis and Gareth Malone hunt for the UK’s best choral singing group.

Each week they’ll be joined by a guest third judge who will include Will Young, Seal, Joe Jonas, Bebe Rexha and Queen of Funk Chaka Khan.

Will Young’s judging position is a clear sign that he’s made amends with the BBC after he quit last year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing just weeks into the competition.

It’s believed that Will walked out on Strictly due to the hectic schedule and a tense on-screen clash with head judge Len Goodman.

Superstar Kelis will serve as a full-time judge on the BBC show this summer

Award-winning musician and chef Kelis has revealed how significant her judging role on Pitch Battle will be.

The 37-year-old singer revealed: “It’s kind of nice when things come full circle. I started singing in the choir as a child so it’s always been something special to me. Now here I am 20 years later as a judge on Pitch Battle.”

While Pitch Battle is her first full-time judging role, Kelis previously appeared as a guest judge on Fashion Police opposite Joan Rivers.

The show will be hosted by former Great British Bake Off presenter Mel Giedroyc who already owns the monopoly on BBC talent shows having already presented Let It Shine and Eurovision: You Decide in 2017.

Speaking of her excitement for Pitch Battle, Mel revealed: “I am so excited to be presenting this new show and PB will definitely be bringing some cracking music into people’s living rooms every Saturday!”

Mel added: “Not only are we going to be joined by some brilliant groups and megastar judges each week but to top it all off my old mucker the original twisted choir starter Gareth Malone will be there too. What a combo!”

BBC regular Gareth Malone will serve as head judge

Pitch Battle will hit TV screens early Summer 2017 with a six episode series. It’s expected to go head to head against ITV’s The Voice Kids.
